During the colonial and early American periods, Pinnacle Mountain in Pinnacle Mountain State Park (Pulaski County, central Arkansas) was known as “Mamelle” Mountain, "mamelle" a French name originally used to describe a breast-shaped hill.  The term “Mamelle” became “Maumelle,” which is a name now applied to the Big Maumelle and Little Maumelle rivers, Lake Maumelle, and two different communities in the area.  The park provides access to both rivers. These slow-moving streams provide fishermen and floaters a quiet getaway for hours of enjoyment.
