I don’t understand why some people don’t think that added scent works. Sharks smell blood from mikes away, catfish find rotten meat, redfish find cut bait… through scent. If you’ve ever tried Berkley Gulp baits in saltwater… you KNOW added scent catches more fish. And Berkley max scent lures catch more bass in freshwater. I will admit… coffee, salt, licorice and other types of odd scented lures don’t do a thing. Maybe they mask the human scent, but they don’t attract fish from a distance, or make them hold on to the lure longer during a strike. So that means those types don’t work in my opinion. But baitfish scent additives DO work. Where I live in south east Texas… all the water is muddy. Fresh and saltwater. And in muddy water, the fish have to use their other senses to find food. Chatter baits work well, because the fish can sense the vibrations in their lateral lines. And because their vision is impaired, their sense of smell is heightened. I know for a fact this stuff works, because I’ve done dozens of tests. I’ll fish with a buddy, and use the exact same lure in the same color, and add scent to just one. And every single time, the one with added scent catches more fish. Period. The gel smells just like baitfish. And it lasts a good while. You only have to reapply every 25-30 casts or so. I add the gel to everything… hard baits, soft baits, and even live bait. I try to use soft baits that have slots or ribs, because the scent lasts much longer… such as a zoom super…
