Thanks to their remarkably soft, pliable, buoyant, and 10X Tough ElaZtech construction, Trick ShotZ—Z-Man’s first specifically designed drop shot baits—feature limber, ribbed bodies and spade-shaped tails that produce ultra-lifelike action with little rod movement, and are impregnated with salt for taste and texture. Accurately mimicking a variety of forage including shad, leeches, gobies, and minnows, their ElaZtech makeup provides exceptional tear resistance when nose hooked and facilitates a more natural, tail-up position that won’t sink to the bottom on slack line like other competitive products. This bait comes in miscellaneous colors.

[Techniques] This bait is specifically designed to fish on a dropshot and will work well across the country where bass are feeding on baitfish or bottom relating forage. The best way to rig the Trick ShotZ is to Nose-Hook the bait on a small - size 1 or 1/0 - dropshot hook.  Because of the ElaZtech material, this bait is naturally buoyant and will stand out naturally off of your hook, even on slack line, which is important to create a flowing or swimming motion underwater.  You can either cast this bait or video game fish with your dropshot - driving over fish with your electronics and dropping directly below the boat; either way, dropshotting is an effective technique to use when targeting less active bass looking for an easy meal.

[Recommended Gear]

  • Reel:  5.2:1 ratio Spinning Reel
  • Rod:  Medium Light or Medium action Spinning rod
  • Main Line: 10-20lb test braid
  • Leader Line: 6-12lb test fluorocarbon

[Our Take] The Trick ShotZ is a good baitfish imitator when bass are keying on smaller forage.  It’s particularly effective once bass push out into their post-spawn or summer patterns and start holding tight to cover under the water.  One of our favorite ways to fish this bait is to cast this out to rock piles or underwater cover where bass are holding during summer months.  Because this is such a natural profile, it’s a good choice when bass are finicky, and unlike other dropshot baits, this will last for multiple fish due to the durable ElaZtech plastic that Z-Man uses.
