Applegate Lake is a 988-acre (4 km² or 1.5 mi²) reservoir located approximately 39 kilometers (24 miles) from Jacksonville, Oregon, United States, and 23 km (14 mi) south of Applegate, Oregon, along Upper Applegate Road. The lake is an impoundment of the Applegate River.
Applegate Dam is an embankment dam, with a gate-controlled concrete chute spillway. The Corps of Engineers began constructing Applegate Dam in 1978 and completed it in 1980. Applegate Dam’s authorized primary purposes include flood risk management, water quality improvement, irrigation, fish and wildlife habitat enhancement and recreation.
Directions: Take OR-238 West from Medford for about 10 miles. Turn left at Upper Applegate Rd. and follow it for about 20 miles.
