Big Creek Lake and the wetlands that surround it are located in the Routt National Forest near Walden, CO.  These wetlands are home to many moose in the area and photo opportunities abound.

The "upper" Big Creek Lake is 100 acres - no motors are permitted.  The "lower" Big Creek Lake is 340 acres and motors are permitted, but there is a 75-yard wake limit.  There are two boat ramps, both of which are located in the first section of the campground.  The two best boat carry-down access locations are Big Creek Lakes Campground sites 43 and 44.

Activities in the area includes wonderful lake fishing for many species of trout, Kokanee salmon and tiger muskie as well as boating on the lake, hiking in Mount Zirkel Wilderness, Seven Lakes Trail (Big Creek Trail) which connects to a network of trails, Red Elephant Nature Trail and ATV trails, and are fun for mountain biking and horseback riding. There is a boat ramp for the lake and sites #43 – 45 are situated on the lakeshore.  Big Creek Lakes Campground is a very rustic feeling campground, and fun for the whole family.

The usual season for this campground is June through Labor Day weather permitting.
