Thirty miles south of Topeka, you will find Council Grove Reservoir. It is located near the town of Council Grove, where the Osage Indians signed the treaty that created the Old Santa Fe Trail. The lake was constructed between 1960 and 1964. Council Grove Reservoir is home to five playgrounds, a marina, eight boat ramps, a swimming area, two picnic sites, and 181 campsites spread among Canning creek Cove, Kit Carson Cove, Marina Cove, Neosho, Richey Cove, Custer and Santa Fe Trail Parks. This is a great place to take the family to fish or have fun. Surrounded by rolling hills full of hardwood forests, this lake is a beautiful spot to enjoy nature, go fishing or take a camping trip.
