Winter Haven is called "The Chain of Lakes City" because of its numerous fresh water lakes which touch or are contained within the city limits. 24 of the 45 lakes in Winter Haven are connected by a system of navigable canals better known as the "Chain of Lakes.†When fishing the chain, keep an eye out for schools of largemouth bass. Use soft plastic lures in junebug and red shad colors. This will get the bass attention around the shoreline and vegetation. Live shiners work best if you are looking to land some big bass over submerged vegetation. When fishing for brim and redear sunfish use crickets and red wigglers. That tends to work well. Black crappie bite is good in the cooler months. If you are fishing for catfish look in the deeper holes of the lakes. Try using stinkbaits,a nd frozen shrimp.
