Product Review: 6.5″ Mag Rattlesnake by GrandeBass

The 6.5" Mag Rattlesnake is a soft plastic worm from GrandeBass with a “tapered ring” body that delivers enhanced action and mimics live baitfish. The design releases tiny bubbles and has a profile large enough to attract attention, yet fishable in multiple rigging styles. It comes in four strong colors (Ballistic Bluegill, Green Pumpkin, Ssabednarg, and Trophy Hunter) and costs ~$6.99 per pack of 5.

What Makes It Stand Out

  • Body Design & Profile:
The tapered ring construction increases both profile and flexible wiggle. The rings also trap air, slowly releasing bubbles during certain retrieves, which gives it lifelike mimicry that can draw in cautious bass.

  • Rigging Versatility:
You can use it rigged in several ways: Texas-rig, Carolina rig, shaky head, drop shot, even a weighted hook variation. This versatility means one bait adapts well to changing conditions.

  • Scent & Finish:
Infused with its potent Mega3 Xtreme Scent & Salt, it’s really effective at masking your personal scent and attracting fish. Combined with the color options, fish can see and smell this bait in a variety of water clarities.

How It Performs in the Field

Pros:

  • Strong Strike Inducer: Because of its size (6.5”), fish tend to see it as baitfish rather than just “plastic.” Many anglers report that it triggers larger fish who might ignore smaller profiles.

  • Slow Fall & Suspended Action: When used on drop shots or shaky heads, it falls in a way that looks natural, giving pauses more time to work.

  • Good Color Selection: The standard colors are well chosen help cover a variety of clarity, cover, and forage matches.

Limitations:

  • Bulk vs. Finesse: The 6.5" size is large enough that in pressured or very clear water, fish may be more ware. Sometimes a smaller size like the 4.25” Baby Rattlesnake or the 5.25” Rattlesnake may be the way to go.

  • Price: GrandeBass is a premium brand and they don't cut corners from the quality of the plastisol to the scent and salt. It’s all top of the line. I put price under limitations only because some people might balk at the $6.99 price tag. I for one don’t, because I know they work but I’m just putting the price out there and remember that larger soft plastics are often more expensive.

Best Uses & Recommended Conditions

The Mag Rattlesnake shines in certain conditions:

  • When bass are targeting baitfish and feeding aggressively (both during fall and in structure-rich waters).

  • In stained water, where profile and scent matter more than fine detail.

  • Deep water or steep drop-offs where you can drop shot or shaky head the bait and let it hover.

  • When larger fish are likely present, the size helps trigger those “big bite” decisions.

Rigging Suggestions:

  • Drop shot with a light weight to allow natural fall.

  • Texas rig with a bullet weight for fishing around cover.

  • Carolina rig to cover flats or ledges.

  • Weighted hook or shaky head for vertical presentations or steep banks.

Verdict

The 6.5" Mag Rattlesnake is a premium, high-profile soft plastic bait that justifies its cost for anyone wanting a bait that will deliver big bites. For anglers who carry a variety of rig styles and like fishing deeper structure or targeting larger bass, this bait delivers. It’s not the “go-to” in every scenario (pressure, ultra-clear water, or finesse-only days), but when fish are feeding and aggressive, it’s among the best baits in my opinion to have in your tackle box.
