Holbrook Reservoir, OR

Holbrook Reservoir is in the Fish Hole Lake Area one mile west of Lofton Reservoir and consists of 40 acres surrounded by scenic pine forests and grassy meadowlands. Holbrook is great for families who desire easy, fun fishing, camping, and other diversionary recreation. Watch the skies for bald eagles, golden eagles, and other predatory and fishing birds. The waters of Holbrook are clear and deep. The trout in Holbrook are often plump from the abundance of insect life that populates the water. Trout can exceed 20 inches, and average catches are fat and range 12-14 inches. Bait, flies, and lures are all allowed, and there are no fish-harvest restrictions. Fly anglers will have opportunities in the summer to fish good hatches of chironomids, Callibaetis, and damsel flies. Simple dry flies such as a Parachute Adams or Griffith Gnat will work in most cases. Ants, beetles, and grasshopper patterns can prove effective when fished with a small twitch in the shallows and against the bank around trees and shrubs. Small leech patterns and nymphs such as scuds, water boatman, water beetles, or Pheasant Tails can be fished on or near the bottom or stripped in the top water with good results. Bait such as small worms and grubs fished under a bobber will catch fish all day. Spinners should be small; gold and silver are best, or something with small feathers such as a Rooster Tail can be trolled or cast from the bank and retrieved fast or slow. Though it's surrounded by private lands, the landowner has graciously given special permission to allow public access. There is a good campground and boat ramp for anglers to launch small craft such as rowboats and float tubes.
