Success is a big lake with a series of major lake arms, set in bare foothill country at an elevation of 650 feet. When full, it covers nearly 2,500 acres and has 30 miles of shoreline, yet it is much shallower than most reservoirs. Water levels can fluctuate from week to week, with major drawdowns during the summer.

Catch rates are often excellent for bass in the 10- to 15-inch class. There are days where you can catch 14- and 15-inchers all day long. Aquatic food levels are high, and with them come the chance for some monster-sized bass. The south fork is a favorite area for bassers, with submerged trees and vegetation that provide cover for fish.

Bluegill, crappie, and catfish are options in the summer months. In the cool months, the lake is stocked with 10- to 12-inch rainbow trout.
