One of the Rachel’s most effective features is its suspending behavior. When paused, the lure hangs naturally in the strike zone, giving following fish an opportunity to commit. Sharp twitches, jerks, and aggressive rips cause the Rachel to dart unpredictably from side to side, closely imitating a wounded baitfish attempting to escape. This erratic action often triggers reaction strikes from fish that would otherwise follow without committing. After several turns of the reel, pause and let the bait suspend motionless before snapping it with a hard jerk. Many of the biggest musky and pike strikes occur during the pause or immediately after the lure darts erratically in a new direction. When fish are following but not committing, increase the length of your pauses and always finish with a wide figure eight at boatside.
