SPRO Dean Rojas Bronzeye Frog 65

SPRO Hollow Body Frog

Hollow-body baits have been around for decades, but never has there been a more well-rounded hollow-body frog than the SPRO Dean Rojas Bronzeye Frog 65. Nearly twenty years ago, professional fisherman Dean Rojas first brought to light the impact a hollow body frog could have in an angler’s tackle box. He designed this bait for SPRO way back then, and went on to win hundreds of thousands of dollars on it.

One of the easiest frogs ever to walk, the Bronzeye 65 also casts like a rocket and sports the strongest set of frog hooks an angler could hope for, capable of locking into the fish of a lifetime and hauling it to the boat or the bank, guaranteed. Built with durable materials, this frog will last for years in your tackle box, or through several seasons of regular use and abuse.

SPRO Dean Rojas Bronzeye Poppin’ Frog 60

SPRO Dean Rojas Popping Frog

The perfect popping frog doesn’t exis… Not true. Of the dozens of popping frogs on the market, this is the best of the best. Weighing 1/2 ounce and measuring 2 and 3/8 inches long, this frog is perfectly sized to catch keepers and kickers alike, while still being heavy enough to make bomb casts way back into cover.

Equipped with a Gamakatsu 3/0 EWG double frog hook, this is a frog that Baker has personally boat flipped 7-pound behemoths with while fun fishing, and used to fill limits in tournament scenarios while still confidently fishing for a big bite. A great bait anytime bass are feeding on bluegill and one of the best skipping baits of all-time, the Poppin’ Frog 60 is a must have lure in every angler’s tackle box.

Stanley Ribbit Toad
Stanley Ribbit Toad

The invent of the Stanley Ribbit in the early 2000s created a unique sound signature for a toad. The slow gurgling sound was a stark contrast to other toads on the market at the time, and it’s what still sets the Ribbit apart. This bait generates one of the most enticing sounds for triggering lethargic bass into slurping down this subtle topwater bait.

Though a great lure to catch fish anytime the water is over 60 degrees, it’s also one of the first few topwater baits that bass will bite even below that threshold. Great for fishing around any type of cover, the Ribbit works best around vegetation. The soft, deep gurgle of the legs of this frog draw the attention of lurking bass that might be a little reluctant to attack faster moving, frantic topwaters.

ZOOM Horny Toad

Zoom Horny Toad

One of the toads that started it all, the ZOOM Horny Toad has a crisper, faster kick as compared to the Stanley Ribbit. This makes it a great selection for the warmer months after the spawn, when the bass are more active and willing to chase a bait down.

This fast kicking toad generates exhilarating topwater strikes from fry guarders right after the spawn, agitates bass into biting that are feeding on bluegill in the heat of the summer and works well in white when targeting bass in the fall relating to shad. This is a great bait to rig weedless and weightless. But it also works well with a belly-weighted hook or on the back of a buzzbait.

Mustad Ultra Lock EWG Worm Hook

Mustad Ultra Lock Worm Hook

When fishing a toad, it’s imperative to have a quality hook. Though there are some great screwlock and belly-weighted hooks for frog fishing, Baker went with a sturdy extra-wide-gap hook in the Mustad Ultra Lock EWG Worm Hook because he believes this is the most versatile style of hook to fit all types of toads.

A 4/0 EWG hook has a larger gap to accommodate the thick plastic of a toad, allowing the bait to sink down into the gap on the hookset. Standard offset worm hooks and straight shank hooks don’t have the added space of an EWG hook, and the bait often balls up on these other styles of hooks, leading to poor hookup ratios and lots of missed fish. Not the case with the Mustad Ultra Lock EWG Worm Hook. This hook is perfectly sized to tote the Zoom Horny Toad, Stanley Ribbit and nearly every other toad on the market.
