Many of today's most ubiquitous bass fishing techniques were originated in Japan. But perhaps the most popular Japanese import is the drop shot.
Developed in a country where bass tournaments commonly draw over 1,000 entrants (many of whom fish from the shores of very clear, highly pressured lakes), the drop shot immediately dominated derbies on the deep, clear waters of the American West. Soon after, the drop shot was quickly adopted across the nation and the entire bass fishing world.
The drop shot technique has been refined over the years, but the general concept remains the same: use a weight to get the lure down, while giving the lure the freedom to move. In this video, Bass Fishing HQ's Ty Berger reviews the basics of the drop shot technique so you can fish it with confidence.
